Cities for culture

When the war is unthinkable, it becomes possible!

Great initiative in Munich by the activist artist Walter Kuhn to commemorate the peace agreement on 11 November 1918 after the First World War.

3200 Poppy flowers have been ‘planted’ at the main square Königsplatz in Munich; a place which has been used before by the Nazis for propaganda parades and which is very closed to the building of their former headquarters.

The initiative is full of symbolic gestures. For example, a group of women who live closed to Sarajevo (where the IWW started) has sewed the flowers.

Cities need more symbolic cultural actions in public spaces to make people think.
