Filling stations with a new life in less car-dependent cities

Public spaces

Filling stations have populated our cities since the Twenties and they have been a key element in urban mobility. The challenge of giving some kind of beauty to a functional place like a petrol station has always attracted even well-known architects like Arne Jacobsen and Mies van der Rohe.

As cities are getting less car-dependent, old gas stations need to be repurposed. Their design needs to meet a new functionality. Like this conversion of a Munich filling station into an office space.
