Street pianos for everyone to play: Play Me, I’m Yours

Cities for culture

From September 7 to 23, 2018, colorful street pianos will again be on public squares around Munich. Everyone who is in the mood is allowed to play, listen and be happy. The pianos are designed by artists and children from Munich and auctioned off after the event for a good cause. The project is organized by the charitable association Isarlust e.V.and die Urbanauten.

The idea for the interactive cultural project “Play Me, I’m Yours” had 2008 the artist Luke Jerram in Birmingham. The pianos placed in streets, gardens and parks turn places of everyday life into communication centers. People should be encouraged to listen to each other.

Located on streets of over 50 cities from London to New York, in public parks, markets and train stations the pianos are available for everyone to play and enjoy. Play Me, I’m Yours invites the citizens to engage with, activate and take ownership of their urban environment. Often decorated by local artists and community groups, the pianos create a place of exchange and an opportunity for people to connect.
