Stumbling stones to remember Holocaust victims

Social inclusion in cities

Stolpersteine by the artist Gunter Demnig are finally sprouting in Munich thanks to @terryswartzberg.

They are located in many cities around the world. In Munich it took quite a while, for many reasons, to let this project really happen.

Stolpersteine (literally “stumbling stone”, metaphorically a “stumbling block”) are concrete cubes bearing a brass plate inscribed with the name and life dates of victims of Nazi extermination or persecution in front of their last place of residency—or, sometimes, work.

Citizens not only need to talk openly about the history in their city; it is their responsibility to keep the history alive.
